The Ag Leader Application Rate Module can be used three ways.

1) connect an implement switch to two of the pins in AUX port. Create a configuration that will create a Coverage map based on the implement switch. The setup allows the operator to indicate how the switch behaves as far as Standard or Reversed. This can be used in many situations. Before clutches became popular, it was often used to make a coverage map for planting or tillage. If a planting configuration was created the operator could enter in the variety being planted. The display would show the acres covered and make a Coverage map.

2) connect a flow meter, shaft sensor or some other type of product measuring device (Mag meter for manure) to different pins in the AUX port. The operator would then create a configuration for application. The Configuration requires a meter cal for the flow meter, shaft sensor or Mag meter. The meter cal allows the system to convert the raw pulses from the measuring device into usable units such as gallons. The system will then display the applied rate, create various totals, create a Coverage Map and an Applied Rate Map. The maps and totals start/stop based on flow. Once the system detects activity from the flow measuring device, it will start to calculate and create the maps.

I have personally done this for several years with my corn planter. We use a ground driven pump to deliver the starter fertilizer. A Raven RFM 15 flow meter is installed in the fertilizer line and connected to an Application Rate Module. The Application Rate module monitors and displays the rate and make maps but can not control the rate. We must do that by adjusting the stroke of the ground driven pump.

There is no option for sections. The entire rig needs to be considered as one single section. This is fine for our planter since we do not have section controls for the starter. Since our fields are mostly rectangular and our applied starter rates are low, we don't see overapplication of point rows as much of a problem.

We have another Application Rate module is the manure tractor. It is setup such as you mention to make maps and show the applied rate of liquid manure. It is essentially the same idea as the planter but uses a manure meter instead for a flow meter.

3) connect a special 9 pin serial computer type cable between the Application Rate module and another device that is controlling the application. The other device such as a Raven 440 is still in control of the application.

A common combination is to use a Raven 440/450/460 etc. that has a 9 pin computer style plug on the back. The special cable is connected to the Raven. The other end plugs into the COMM port on the Application Rate Module. Some settings in the Raven need to be set properly. Data Logger must be set ON, the trigger value of 1 is needed. the trigger units of SEConds is needed with a BAUD rate of 9600. This will allow the Ag Leader system and the Raven system to exchange information both directions.

The Raven will send flow rate and seconds that are spraying to the Ag Leader. Since the Ag Leder knows its location and speed, it is able to compute the applied rate itself and make Coverage and Applied rate maps. It creates various totals for acres and volume. It cannot handle section control since the Raven is still controlling the sections. The Ag Leader can send target rates to the Raven Rate 1 register. These rates can be entered by hand by the operator on the fly or come from an Rx map.
