App Rate Module + Lift Switch definitely seem like the right way to go, to me. I've never used a 20/20 though. If it has either lift-switch or some kind of rate output, then perhaps that would be nicer, but that would also probably take more time to research and set up, and might be more difficult for your dad to understand (or at least certainly would be for mine ;) ).
