Spray planes used atomizers long ago. They looked like a bunch of pinwheels with screens around them. Put out finer droplets.

I would assume evaporation rate has to be considered at some point with any super fine droplet being deposited 10-15 ft above the target on a 0.0% humidity day.



The whole point of using rotary nozzles on a T40 is to control droplet size and avoid the super fine droplets created by a conventional nozzle.
We used rotary nozzles many years ago on a ground rig. Each was hydraulically driven with a fan above to angle the droplets downward. Our standard rate was 3 gpa. Had great results even with chemicals such as Basagran and Blazer which required uniform coverage. And drift was much reduced due to uniform droplet size.
I do think there needs to be more research on droplet size and use of anti-drift agents with drones. But other than Steve Li, I think universities are way behind the curve on such research.
