Would a distance cal be necessary if I am getting the speed from my gps)

Yes, since your GPS is creating a radar like pulse from its GPS information.

As far as the 350 is concerned this is no different than if you were using a real radar gun. However this must be OK since you mention getting speed.

The area counter is based on seed flow and the number of rows that are ON and their spacing. To get area you need length x width. The speed is giving you the length but the width is apparently not working properly. The number of rows that are "ON" and their width could be the problem. The system may not be detecting seed flow to stat the area counting. Lack of power/ground to the seed sensors might be the problem.

Are you certain that the planter harness and the tractor harness are compatible? Just because they plug together does not guarantee that they are compatible. Dickey John uses two different pin arrangements for power and ground. If you have a mismatch, the sensors would not be getting the power and ground that they need. This would explain your problem.
