Tommy, your department should be training volunteers using the West, Texas accident. Volunteer department wiped out to a man of those on scene fighting the fire.

Only thing you need to know is that’s not one you want to fight. Much better to be evacuating, creating a perimeter.

Lots of fertilizer dealers no longer handle straight ammonium nitrate, only blended with ammonium sulfate if at all. Two of the first industrial accidents involving ammonium nitrate were in the early 1920’s in Poland and Germany. The product was supposedly ammonium nitrate and ammonium sulfate, though there was some disagreement over how well it was blended. The plant workers were in the habit of using dynamite to break it up when it had solidified in storage! One day it blew up the town!
