I don't want to be a total Downer as we've finally received some moisture.  August 4th 2023 was the last time we received an inch of rain.

After 2022 when we were down by 36%..on precipitation.. We basically lost the 23 wheat crop.. we sowed the 24 wheat crop into better prospects last fall.. but mother nature turned off tge spigot with only 0.02" recorded in Dodge City tying the driest April in recorded history.. some patches and areas of wheat fields totally died.

After 269 days we got an inch last Saturday.. followed by more moisture.. with hail of course and wind.  But enough to stabilize some of the deterioration.  There appears to be a small sliver of a line between.. too wet.. and still waiting.. as some still haven't received much.. maybe that line is now moving west?

Alot of dryland wheat here is headed out.. a little over boot tall with some extremely stressed patches in it.. but relatively cool and some precipitation is helping fill.

The Kansas wheat tour starts next week.. they will start out with.. too wet.. go across the northern part.. sashey down through the arid southwestern part through here.. we're better than last year at this point.. but clinging to limited prospects.  Between the weather and the markets.. producers are battle hardened.. and somewhat shell shocked.

I can handle lean.. and dry..but driest in recorded history.. dryer than the 1930s dust bowl.. man.. that's taxing us.

Here's a good article..

As the last two pictures show.. some wheat is gone.. some still has “hope” of making a crop.

cheers.
