Thumb of Michigan | Maybe just a slow grower?
My granddaughter has a heifer that is going to calf any day now (another story). She's 3 years and 4 months old now. She won or placed high in every show she entered her in but was extremely slow gaining weight. My 24-month-old heifers that are calving now are bigger/heavier than she is. Folks GD bought her from, tried telling GD it was the feed, she was being fed (my feed verses buying feed from them, the rest of the calves gained well). As a matter of fact, GD's brothers steer gained 200# in 61 days, while GD's heifer gained less than 50# in same pen, with same feed. Slowest growing calf I've ever seen. Of course, she was bred to look good (which she did), verses having a great R of G. | |
