Eastern Ontario, Canada
You have to have manure storage, its either under the barn with slated floors or put into a lagoon. I believe most dairies in North America are the same. Can't spread all winter and can't spread on fields when there is crop in there. not many slated floors anymore so most are cement storage in the ground. if you have clay you can have an earthen lagoon with sloped banks instead of cement. but most new builds are cement anyways. you have to have just the right clay with the regulations today. other than a light spread after 1st cut of hay, we only spread in the fall so have a years worth of storage in the lagoon. most farms here are the same. Quebec has lots of tie stall farms with lots of straw bedding, so lots of stackers making a pile, but even then you have to have a containment pit for the pile and a runoff pit for the liquid. many of the pics you posted are the later.
